Thank you for taking the time to learn about me,
my policies and my campaign.
The idea of being a first-time political candidate makes me a little nervous...
Like most of you, I have followed the ups and downs of American politics over the years. Like most of you, I have often asked my family and friends questions like “Why doesn’t someone who really cares about this country run for office?” or “Where are all the candidates who represent the people and who understand that we want and expect good government?”
When I read that Americans recently gave Congress its worst approval ratings ever recorded -- just 9% -- I felt sad for our nation. Like most of you, I have become increasingly frustrated as our most complex problems are ignored while the elected officials routinely put party before the people. Since 2010, we have watched Republicans try to dismantle Medicare, “reform” Social Security and significantly restrict access to affordable healthcare for working families, individuals and small businesses. Threats from Republican Party bosses to hold FEMA disaster aid for storm-ravaged states hostage to their demands for even more spending cuts were my “a-ha!” moment. I had to take action. I had to muster up the courage to step forward, put myself out there and become one of those citizen-candidates that I always wanted to vote for.
So, here I am: a resident of Montgomery, an educator, an attorney, a retired state employee, a mother and grandmother, a nonprofit board member, a taxpayer and, now, I am a citizen-candidate. Instead of gridlock, I’ll give you good government. Rigid “my way or the highway” style politics helps none of us and harms all of us. It certainly isn’t getting the job done for the 2nd District. I think we need new ideas and new leadership. If you agree, I would be honored to receive your vote on November 6th.
Thank you!
